Out of the ICU

So Alexander is finally out of the ICU. He is on the regular floor now. Yesterday, Saturday, he was moved. He didn't have a good day though. We think he was in alot of pain so eventually we finally gave him some morphine. We were trying only to give him tylenol but he wasn't having it. John stayed over night with him. He said that he woke up everytime the baby next to him woke up. Alexander isn't use to alot of noise so I think it is hard for him to sleep with all that noise.

This morning when I got here he was off his oxygen and ready to go. He is full of smiles again and feeling much better. He just got his last IV out of his head. So right now he is only on monitors. The surgeon said he would probably get out of the hospital tomorrow! Fingers crossed with lots of prayers.

Day 4

Day 4 was much better today! Alexander was up all day. He got it drainage tube taken out of his chest& his central venous iv. He did have to get another IV put in though. They put it in his forehead. The nurse said it looks worse than what it really is though. He was such a good boy today. :) I finally got to hold him too! We were trying to get him to cough some by sitting him up. He didn't really like to sit up with his head up. I think it hurt his chest. I know it would hurt mine. But all and all today was a good day! Tomorrow should be better because he will be on the regular floor if everything goes as planned over night. His surgeon said he didn't want to move him today just because of what had happened on Wed.

P.S. Alexander has never really sucked a binky and now it is his best friend i am not kidding. It has been in his mouth for the past 24 hours non-stop.

Day 3

When I got here today Alexander wasn't as well as when we left last night. He was getting some help from the breathing machine. They were trying to do this first. If he didnt cooperate then they would have to incubate him. (Put him to sleep and put the breathing tube down his throat) So far so good he hated the face mask and now they have him with the tubes in his nose. His SATS are just ok . This is all because he had some fluid around his lungs and he wasn't peeing. So now he is peeing like a race horse with the catheteer back in and his SATS are going up with the help of the oxygen. Alexander is still in the ICU. We aren't going to get our hopes up too much about him moving since he didn't get to move today. :( Maybe tomorrow! I will keep you posted.

Keep Praying all the prayers are helping! Remember he is our little fighter!

Day 2 Evening

Alexander was doing good tonight. He had 8ounces of formula at 3 and then had some bananas at about 4:30. He had a full belly so we took a nap!

His oxygen levels were starting to drop to about 85 to 90 without his breathing machine so they gave him a little of air....

At about 7:30 we gave him about 4 ounces of food and again he was much happier. He was crying it was so sad but once he got some food he was happy and asleep again.

I left tonight at about 9pm but will go back in the morning and tomorrow John will be staying the night again.

Alexander should be moving to the floor tomorrow. :) Probably tomorrow afternoon!

Day 2

Alexander is doing excellent today, still in the CICU though. They took his breathing machine off and pulled his feeding tube. He also got his catheter taken out. Daddy was glad to see that go. He will be able to eat at 3pm, 6 hours after he got his breathing tubes pulled. Alexander was taken off his sedation medicine and his painkiller before the pulled the breathing tube. They did give him some morphine after they pulled his tube. He was not a happy camper.

About at 12 we gave him more morphine and turned on the TV and he settled again. We can't wait for 3 pm to feed him. He will be so much happier! :)

D-Day

Today's operation went great! Alexander is in the CICU right now. He is on a ventilator but probably will be taken off of it tomorrow. He was looking around when we went in there but of course he is sedated as well. The good news is that he didn't have to get his valve replaced with a homograft (cadavar part). They thought that his pulmonary valve was small but that he should grow with the size that he is. Alexander's SAT's were at 100% today and that is the first time we have ever seen that. :)

Keep us in your prayers!

Pre-Op

So today was Alexander's Pre-Op appointment. He did really well and the doctors and surgeons were happy with what they saw. They didn't see anything that they didn't already know about. He had a cardiac catherization today and a bunch of other test. They put a lead through his main artery in his right leg to get some pictures and to find out more about his surgery before actual surgery. He woke up easily and he was even eating at about 8:15. He had 4 ounces of Pedialyte and 4 of Formula. We didn't want to over do it.

So tonight Daddy stayed at the hospital with Alexander and Mommy came home to a very quiet house. Surgery is at about 8am tomorrow and he should be out by 2 or 3 pm. We let you know more when I know! Pray for the little man!

P.S. The picture to the right is his 9month picture which was taken yesterday on his 9month birthday!

Pre-Op

Well today we went to Children's Hospital for Alexander's Pre-operation appointment. Well he was suppose to be put to sleep but the plan changed. They only took his x-rays. While we were waiting for his anestigiologist (m/s) the surgeon and cardiologist decided they want to do a cardiac catherization. So instead of putting him to sleep today and again next week they decided to schedule it all together.

Alexander sure was a trooper through all of this. He was able to eat since 8pm last night and by the time he was able to eat it was 11am. He chowed his bottle down when I gave it to him. I am so proud of him though he didn't even cry for any food either. Just to be picked up!!! :)

So they rescheduled everything for August 25th and the operation is August 26th. He will now stay over night and have his operation the next day!

The summer is soon coming to a end for us! We have had fun boating, swimming and just having fun! :) We will be preping Alexander for his big surgery. On Friday he has to go to the hospital and be put to sleep. The doctors want to do a EKG, Echiocardiogram , X-rays and blood work will he is sleeping. :( Mommy took the day off work so we can both be at the hospital that day. The surgery is still 2 weeks away though but we think about it all the time.
He is doing so great now! He can sit up, talks all the time and of course loves his food! :) He weighs about 20 pounds.
Here are some pics from the last few weeks!
