Gaining Still Yeah!

I am still gaining weight! Yeah! Today I weighed 10 pounds and 13 ounces. That's great - he is still at the 75% for Down Syndrome Babies.

Also women in charge of the Early Intervention Program over here came out to the house. The program is called Portage. It was originally started in Portage, WI. But once everything is set up they will come out to the house once a week. They will monitor Alexander's progress each week and loan us specific toys to let us play with. Once we need the speech and occupational therapies they will work along side them. So Alexander would be in this program until he is 3 then he would go to Nursery over here.

Fingers crossed we will be back in the states though. They said if we were then they will try to help us contact the right people in Illinois. :) Ahhh - a sigh of relief!

Immigration

Just a little update on our immigration. All the paper work has been sent to the Embassy and they are working on our case. In December they requested some information on Baby Brewster about his birth and medical status. We have now sent all of that paperwork to the Embassy and we think that we should find out the answer in the next couple of weeks! Please keep us in your prayers! We would love to move back to the states and then you all can see our little bundle of joy!

8 week check

Alexander had his 8 week check yesterday. The doctor was really impressed on how good he is doing. He said his strength is great. I told him we work with him everyday doing exercising to build up his muscle tone. Alexander also had his first set of immunizations. The first one he didn't even notice then the next one you saw him turn bright red and his pout lip came out. :) He cried for just a minute then he feel asleep on my shoulder. We also had him weighed and measured. He is now 10 pounds and 6 ounces and 23 inches long. He is doing excellent.

Slowly gaining!

Today was our first day at the baby clinic. Here in England you can go to your local GP and they do a baby clinic every week. All they do at the baby clinic is weigh and measure your baby. It is for well babies.

So today Alexander got weigh and he was exactly 10 pounds. I was hoping he had gained more but maybe next time! We didn't measure him today but I think that he probably is longer too. He is already outgrowing some his sleepers. He is too long for them. :) He will be tall like his moms family!

I've gained weight!

Today Alexander got weighed and he was 9pounds and 14 ounces. That is great news. The health visitors are really happy with his progress. He has gained 8 ounces since last week. I can definitely tell that he has been wanting to eat more as well.

His nasty cold is still here but getting a little better. Down syndrome babies are prone to chest infections and because there ear and nose canals are typically smaller they take longer to get rid of. Poor little guy, he is sure a fighter.

BTW his infection in his eye is gone as well...it was conjuctivitis.

Alexander's cough :(

Alexander has had a nasty cough for the past few days! So again we are being worried parents and I took him to the doctor with me today. I had to go for my postnatal review - so I have the clear now. It's diet time now!

Well the doctor said that his chest sounded normal and there was nothing to be worried about. Of course he didn't cough one time while we were there, so I guess he decided to make a liar out of me! :) Tomorrow the health visitor comes out so hopefully he has put some more weight on!

BTW today Alexander met his first friend today. The neighbor just had a baby girl and she is a week and a half old. It was so cute they just kept looking and reaching out at each other. I will post the pic of Alexander and Pippa soon!

Update!

Went to the cardiologist and the respirtory doctors today! Alexander is doing great ! He has gained weight and now weighs 9lbs and 6oz. and is 22 inches long. He is a big boy! He is in the 75% percentile for down syndrome children. They have a different weight chart they go off of for Down babies. ???

The cardiologist was very happy with Alexander. He is still on his dieuretic and his aspirin everyday. He will virtually be on his aspirin for years to come but his dieuretic he will go off by his next appointment. He still has to grow a little bit to grow into his shunt but he is almost there. We did find out from Dr. Kirk today that he will have his next surgery at 12-18 months and most likely one when he is a adolscent and then a adult. This was a little bit of a shock to the system. We have thought the next op would take care of everything but I guess not.

The respiratory doctor, Dr. Spencer was also happy with Alexander. He is still keeping a eye on him though. He is watching to see if he possible has sleep apnea. Alot of Down Syndrome babies also have problems with there lungs, about 40%. He is happy with his progress though. We are just suppose to keep a eye on his breathing. Most people have heard that Down babies have floppy muscles well that goes along with there lungs, alot of times they are floppy as well.

So all in all everyone is happy with Alexander and so are we!!!!
